The primary target market for XtraByte is all active MTN’s prepaid subscribers.
To check if you are eligible for this MTN XtraByte service, dial the USSD code on MTN sim, *606# and then choose 1.
In addition, customers are required to meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- SIM must be registered
- Customer’s number must have been active on the network for at least 3 months.

According to the MTN ad, if you are an MTN BetaTalk subscriber, you get to enjoy 200% bonus on any recharge above ₦100 you make. – Errr…. One cannot “recharge below ₦100” so technically, on every recharge you make while a BetaTalk subscriber, you are slammed 200% bonus airtime.
All that one na English and Math. What the chunk of text above means is that; if you recharge your cell with ₦100, you’ll have a bonus of ₦200 so your bonus and your actual recharge tallies up to ₦300.
Therefore:
₦100 gives you ₦300
₦200 gives you ₦600
₦400 gives you ₦1200
₦500 gives you …….? – answer that!

MTN Pulse is the most advertised tariff plan on MTN. I’ve seen various adverts on television and there’s even a song done for the plan (Falz try for the song sha!). In fact, MTN pulse is more than just a tariff plan, “It’s a movement”.
I’m now sounding like an MTN staff who works in the PULSE department right?
Well, that’s how much I love Pulse.
Here’s why I love pulse so much as to sound like an advocate:
You get to enjoy cheap rates on national calls. To be specific, for every minute you talk on MTN pulse, you pay just ₦6.6. This would mean that with a hundred naira, I can relate with my folks over the phone for almost 15 minutes! (There’s a catch).
While other MTN subscribers are getting 750MB for ₦500, you get 1GB for the same amount (valid for a week).
You are the only MTN subscriber eligible to browse at night for almost free – 500MB for just ₦25
On every recharge of ₦100/₦200 you get a data bonus of 10MB/20MB – once a week and valid for only 24 hours.
Remember I talked about a “catch” for making calls at ₦6.6/min Well, It’s not much of a catch. It’s just that before you begin enjoying the ₦6.6/min rate you’d have to use ₦10 at the rate of 20k/s.
What this means is your first 50 seconds of the day will be charged at ₦12/min while subsequent seconds @ ₦6.6/min.
However, even with this little perk, ₦100 still guarantees you 14 minutes 28 seconds of national calls (i.e. to all networks in Nigeria) and ₦200 – 29 minutes 37 seconds.

But it’s still freaking awesome joor because, for just a small fee of ₦5, you can gist for 29 minutes 32 seconds with just ₦200.
Wait, 32 seconds? That’s 5 seconds less than what you can get on Pulse!
Oh well, you don’t browse so stick with this.

What caused the excitement was ignorance. I (at that moment) did not know that call rates for the Xtra Value bundles were extreme. My thoughts were that I would be charged the same ₦6.6 per minute I am charged on Pulse or Xtra Pro.
At ₦6.6/min you know what it means right?
It means with I could talk for 48 minutes every day for just ₦67! (₦2k for 30 days).
However, the math didn’t quite pan out as I projected. I put to test my hypothesis one day by buying the cheapest bundle from the offerings (₦300) but was shocked by my findings. Calls were charged at ₦24/min.
It was later that I found out from their official page that the rate increases across the bundles – for the ₦5k bundle, you are charged ₦33/min for national calls and ₦39.6/min for international calls.
Nonetheless, there’s still value in the XtraValue bundles (XtraTalk specifically) thanks to the data appended to it.
Now, I see the XtraValue bundles as buying an XtraPro equivalent amount of talk time with a data bonus. I.e. when you pay ₦5k to get the ₦24,500 you get 12 hours 22 minutes national talk time + 1.6GB data whereas, ₦5k on MTN Xtra Talk gives you 12 hours 37 minutes national talk time (minus daily access fee).
So you see, any XtraValue bundle is simply XtraPro with a data bonus.

WhatsApp end-to-end encryption is now live. Here’s what the feature means and how you can use it.
WhatsApp is now end-to-end encrypted at all times. This will ensure that users’ messages, videos, photos sent over WhatsApp can’t be read by anyone else — not WhatsApp, not cyber-criminals, not law-enforcement agencies. Even calls and group chats will be encrypted.
WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum announced the update on his Facebook page, stating that the company has been working on the feature for the last two years.
Koum wrote,“We’ve been working for the past two years to give people better security over their conversations on WhatsApp… People deserve security. It makes it possible for us to connect with our loved ones. It gives us the confidence to speak our minds. It allows us to communicate sensitive information with colleagues, friends, and others. We’re glad to do our part in keeping people’s information out of the hands of hackers and cyber-criminals.”
So what is end-to-end encryption and how exactly does it work in WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is using “The Signal Protocol”, designed by Open Whisper Systems, for its encryption.
In its White Paper, explaining the technical details of the end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp says that “once the session is established, clients do not need to rebuild a new session with each other until the existing session state is lost through an external event such as an app reinstall or device change.”
The paper explains how messages are encrypted as well.
It reads, “clients exchange messages that are protected with a Message Key using AES256 in CBC mode for encryption and HMAC-SHA256 for authentication. The Message Key changes for each message transmitted, and is ephemeral, such that the Message Key used to encrypt a message cannot be reconstructed from the session.” It also says that calls, large file attachments are end-to-end encrypted as well.
Note that the ever-changing message key can mean a delay in some messages getting delivered, according to the paper.
It should be noted that feature is enabled by default in WhatsApp, which means that if you and your friends are on the latest version of the app, all chats will be end-to-end encrypted. Unlike say Telegram where users have to start a secret chat to enable the feature, WhatsApp has the feature on at all times. Users don’t have the option of switching off end-to-end encryption.
Users need to be on the same versions of WhatsApp to ensure that their chats get end-to-end encrypted. If you’ve recently updated the app, and you start a chat with someone else (also on the new version) you are likely to see a message saying, “Messages you send to this chat and calls are now secured with end-to-end encryption. Tap for more info.”
Once you tap on the message, WhatsApp has a pop-up menu explaining what end-to-end encryption means. Users can verify if the encryption is working as well. If a user taps on verify, they will be taken to a page with a QR code, followed by a string of 60 numbers.
If your friend is nearby, take their phone scan the code from your phone (the option is there at the bottom of the same page) and if the QR code matches, then the chat is encrypted. When the codes match, a green tick appears; when it doesn’t there’s an exclamation mark in red alerting a user that the chat is not secure.
So does the end-to-end encryption work all the time?
We tried verifying some chats that had the message saying encryption was enabled. In some cases, the verification failed for us. In the first case, we tried to verify a chat between an Android and iPhone 6s device (running iOS 9.3.1), and the QR codes didn’t match. We also tried matching QR codes on an two Android phones, and once again we got the red alert indicating no end-to-end encryption. Both Android phones are on the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store.
However, a verification between a chat on two iOS devices, (iPhone 6s, iPhone 5s) worked for us and showed the green tick.
We’re not sure why the verification failed, even though the chat says it is end-to-end encrypted. We might have to wait for another app update that could fix this issue.

Today I’m going to show you how to create a Wi-Fi Hotpot and share your tweaked free data with other devices.
Normally, the Android tethering and hotspot most times refuses to allow other devices to access and share your free internet data connection, therefore the 3 most reliable ways of creating, sharing or tethering your internet connection will be outlined here from the easiest (use of an app on Wi-Fi) to the hardest (Manually configuring your hotspot) mind you very simple if you follow along.
3. Run the installed ISWAT app and grant it root permissions.
4. On the main screen, tap on the “Unlock Tethering” and sit back while it does its works
5. When the unlocking operation is done, it brings out the pop up “Tethering Unlocked” Have Fun, just enable your already created hotspot and connect the other device or PC.

HOW TO SHARE OR TETHER YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION TO PC VIA USB CABLE OR HOTSPOT WITH THE USE OF AN APP [PDANet+]

1. Make sure your hotspot is switched off to start with
2. Click here to download and install PDANet+ for android
4. On the PDANet Android app main screen, there are three options:
- USB Tether
- Bluetooth Server
- Wifi Hotspot
5. Enable USB debugging on your Android (from the “Developer Options”).
6. Activate the “USB Tether” option for best reliability and connect your USB cable to the PC
7. Install the PDANet for PC (if not already installed) and confirm that it is connected to the phone.
8. Open the PDANet+ menu from the notification bar of your Windows and click on “Connect Internet (USB)”.
9. It will verify and authenticate your connection automatically and you will be connected via USB.
After successful connection via USB, you can install Connectify on your PC and share the internet with other devices.
METHOD THREE
HOW TO SHARE/TETHER YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION WITH ANOTHER PHONE OR PC VIA WI-FI HOTSPOT WITH MANUAL CONFIGURATION
1. Create a Wi-Fi hotspot on the main (primary) phone (running the Simple Server). Use default (no security hotspot or click to see how to create a secured Wi-Fi hotspot connection).
2. Now go to the other phone/device (secondary) and switch on the Wi-Fi to start searching for available network (if you have used the secured connection, click to show how to connect).
3. When connected, long press on the connected network name and then tap on “Modify Network”.
4. On the next screen, tap on the “Show Advanced Options” checkbox to open full settings.
5. On the proxy settings, select “Manual” (Tap on the “none” for the dropdown options to appear.
