MTN 4G data plans have been much anticipated from Nigeria’s largest telecoms operator and now, the wait is finally over. MTN in fulfillment of its promise to make 4G services accessible to all Nigerians has unveiled its 4G packages to be rolled out on Visafone network. There are many other service providers offering 4G LTE service in Nigeria but their coverage is limited to some selected cities in Nigeria. MTN is launching there 4G LTE service ahead of Airtel, Glo and Etisalat.

MTN is clearly charging more for the 4G plan compared to other networks. nTel unlimited data plan is going for N10,000 monthly, MTN is offering their 4G unlimited plans at N36,999

Cyberspace Offers Free Internet Wi-Fi Facilities Across all Nigerian Universities

INDIGENOUS 4G operator, Cyberspace Network Limited, will be launching Free wi-fi network in all universities across the country beginning with University of Abuja today. The free Internet wifi will be launched first in the University of Abuja before going round to other universities.

According to the chief marketer of surfwella, the service will be on “no payment, no subscription, no data purchase, and no need for modems basis”. Every surfing will be absolutely free.

The company is planning to build another free Internet infrastructure for Lagos State University (LASU) in the next few weeks, which will be followed by College of Agric, Lafiaji, and University of Lagos (Unilag).

This is a good move by the company to empower the students with free internet… their way of giving back to the society. How I wish other Telcos will emulate this company.

Zenith bank sometimes ago launched free WiFi services within their branches nationwide but speed of browsing has not being impressive. Surfwella must be ready to offer a speed that will be decent enough for download and upload.

All finger will be crossed as we await this life changing initiative that will enhance teaching, learning and research in Nigeria universities.

According to MTN executive office, Mr Fedinand Moolman “that the main reason MTN acquired Visafone was to get access to the frequency which would allow it roll out LTE. He said that MTN has started the process to migrate all the Visafone subscribers onto its network so that they can clean up the frequency and start rolling out LTE.”

I can authoritatively inform you that MTN engineers have visited and upgraded the base stations to be 4G ready in preparation for a national activation of the service. MTN has also release the price list for their 4G service some weeks ago.

As we all know, not all phones are 4G ready and not all MTN SIM cards in circulation now are 4G ready too. To check if you phone will work with MTN 4G services, ensure you are in a 4G enable area and check if your phone network service change to 4G.
