MTN Mobile Electricity is now available in Nigeria. According to MTN, to sign up for the mobile electricity package, you can visit any local MTN store with your MTN SIM card registered in your name, a valid ID card and the names/details of two guarantors.

THE GIANT NETWORK MTN ADVISED GENERAL PUBLIC TO USE MTN DATA TO SOLVE SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROBLEMS

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Transformation Officer, Olubayo Adekanmbi said, with proper application, developing economies including Nigeria can apply big data to solve fundamental socio-economic problems, particularly the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Nations that intelligently apply big data have commensurate growth in their Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This was delivered at the just concluded Information Technology Conference (ITC) in Abuja, which was organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Speaking on the theme of the conference tagged: “Fostering Digital Economy through Local Content Development and Effective Regulations,” Adekanmbi said: “Big data can be applied to tremendous effects. For instance, it has been linked to multiple uses in infectious disease tracking, weather management, agricultural yield optimization, precision policing, human migration, governance, urban planning, emergency response, intelligent transport network and many others.”

He wrapped up his address by commending the Government’s planned open data policy and how it would aid the private sector in strategic planning and increasing investment levels in Nigeria.

He, however, cautioned on the importance of data security, customer privacy, and anonymisation for information sanitisation and privacy protection for effective use of aggregated data for social good.

Adekanmbi leveraged the platform to reinforce how MTN Nigeria uses the power of intelligent aggregation to transform the Nigerian music industry by creating easy-to-use, on-demand music which has been most profitable for the practitioners in the Music industry. “With data comes information and with information comes knowledge. Good knowledge powers decisions that deliver results and when we commit to using big data in a most logical way, we can transform industries, society, and the world at large,” he said.

The conference was declared open by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who stated that a renewed focus in ICT has yielded positive effects on the Nigerian economy; citing examples of the Biometric Verification Number (BVN) and Treasury Single Account (TSA) exercises.

Meanwhile, in Lagos, last weekend, the South African firm won multiple awards at the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) organised Nigerian Tech Innovation and Telecom Awards (NTITA) 2017.

In addition to being named the Most Valuable Brand by Top 50 Brands Nigeria for the second consecutive year, MTN won the ‘Mobile Operator of the Year’; the prestigious ‘LTE/4G Provider of the Year’, and ‘Customer Experience” awards; and the ‘Innovative Project of the Year’ award for the innovative Lumos Mobile Electricity Service powered by MTN.

Expressing appreciation, Corporate Relations Executive, MTN, Tobechukwu Okigbo, said: “We are honoured by this recognition, and would like to acknowledge the role of our customers, communities, partners, policy makers and peers who champion excellence and persistently challenge us to do more and be better. MTN on Saturday 7th October 2017 change the way some of their data plans work. The 1000 Naira for 1.5GB will no longer work for 24hr. The plan will now be divided between night and day.

MTN Introduces New Hourly Data Plans For Youtube Streaming.  I was about subscribing for my Monthly data plan before I saw YouTube packs on the menu. I think this is a welcome development, however I don't know the data limit of the plans.

I'm guessing they haven't been briefed about it or MTN introduced it secretly because I haven't seen any banners so far relating to it on their social media pages. I still sent a screenshot of the page to them. Once there's a response, I'll certainly add it here.

MTN/ISON: MTN NIGERIA DENIES MASS SACK OF CALL CENTRE AGENTS

MTN’s attention has been drawn to online media reports claiming that the company has sacked thousands of workers at its call centres.

Responding to the reports, MTN Executive, Amina Oyagbola, said; "The reports are incorrect. The second phase of a change-in-vendor process took place last week, offering interested workers the opportunity to join the new call centres owned and operated by the vendor; ISON BPO. MTN signed an outsourcing contract with ISON BPO Limited in 2015 following a competitive bid process. Indeed MTN's call centre operations were outsourced to independent third party agencies since 2008, as part of continued efforts to improve the efficiency and quality of customer service delivery in MTN. This is in line with global best practice for organisations in our industry”.

ISON Group CEO, Pravin Kumar said: “We have been managing MTN’s call centres since last year when the first phase of the transition was carried out, with the second phase taking place at this time.  “We were pleased to have emerged as the new partner to deliver cost-effective solutions, adopting state-of-the-art technology that supports world-class customer service. The drive for efficient customer service delivery without compromising on quality within prevailing economic realities comes with structural adjustments and we work to balance this with the need to ensure the sustainability of our operations.  We have continued to engage with those who are interested in taking up the opportunity to work with ISON under agreed terms.
